The Department of Health has released a draft guidance note on managing asbestos contamination arising from fire. It is primarily for the use of Local Government Environmental Health Officers in a regulatory capacity and also for asbestos professionals responsible for managing asbestos contamination. In particular, the draft guidance note contains a recommended process for the management of fire damaged asbestos, including an outline of the steps that can be taken by Local Governments to address the risks to human health and the environment.
The Department of Health is inviting submissions on the draft guidance note. Submissions are due on 1 August 2014.
